Action Update: Proposed Bill to expand Government’s powers to remove people to third countries

Dear CAPSA Community,

As you may be aware, last week the High Court found the Federal Government’s imposition of ankle bracelet and curfew conditions after release from indefinite detention to be unconstitutional and unlawful.

In response the Federal Government has introduced new regulations under the Migration Act to reinstate these conditions, and is due to hear a proposed Bill which seeks to significantly expand the Government’s powers to remove people to third countries.

CAPSA members may wish to act in response to the Bill which the Government will seek to pass through parliament early next week.
