National Week of Prayer and Action 2024
16th – 20th September 2024
Journeying together
Each year, the Catholic Alliance for People Seeking Asylum (CAPSA) holds a National Week of Prayer and Action (16–20 September) and celebrates World Day of Migrants and Refugees (“Refugee Sunday”- 29 September).
Throughout the week we seek to engage the Australian Catholic community across schools, organisations, and parishes, to act and stand in solidarity with people seeking asylum.
“…it is…. in all our vulnerable brothers and sisters that we can encounter God who walks with us.” (Pope Francis)
This National Week of Prayer and Action we focus on ‘Journeying together with Refugees and People Seeking Asylum.’
Recognising that the journey for people seeking asylum and refugees in Australia continues to be extremely challenging and disempowering. We can choose to accompany on this journey by being present, being compassionate, by listening and learning, by seeking justice, and by amplifying the voices of those who are less able to be heard.
Join us through the week as we explore:
- What role does each of us have on this journey to ensure mutual respect, human dignity, justice, and access for all people to a safe place to call home?
- What are the current (and ongoing) challenges and barriers faced by refugees and people seeking asylum?
- What practical steps can we take to advocate for policy change and to address the critical issues affecting refugees and people seeking asylum? How can we support refugees in our own communities?
Together we can support and positively impact the lives of refugees and people seeking asylum through prayer, reflection, action, and advocacy.
Join an online webinar – listen to other’s accompanying on the journey:
